Commander Buford Turner of the American Legion Post 208 submitted this poem in Support of Our Troops.
Mary Had A Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb his fleece was white as snow And everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go
He followed her to school each day twasn’t even in the rule He made the children laugh and play to have a lamb at school
And then the rules all changed one day illegal it became To bring the Lamb of God to school or even speak his name
Everyday got worse and worse and days turned into years Instead of hearing children laugh we heard sounds of guns and tears
What must we do to stop the crime that’s in our schools today? Let’s let the lamb come back to school and teach our kids to pray!

Our 2005 Christmas Parade had a great showing of active military, hurricane relief soldiers and national guard troops on hand to be honored and cheered. THANK YOU U.S TROOPS FOR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT!

These are pictures from the newly renamed stretch of highway formerly called Hwy 90 now recently renamed Veterans Memorial Highway. The American Legion Post 208 and The VFW Post 9854 Veterans of War asked Mayor David Riggins what they could do to accomplish this. Mayor Riggins contacted Senator James David Cain and Representative Ronnie Johns and as a combined effort they were able to accomplish this memorial for the Veterans in our community.

We support our home town area armed service personnel where ever they may be stationed and thank them for their service to our country.
We pray they remain safe and will return to Vinton as quickly as their tour of duty permits.
We stand ready to welcome each one of them personally home.

Please send us your service pictures and notes for display here to Becky Johnson, webmaster@cityofvinton.com
